The three-storey building sitting right in the centre of Hamilton’s Beaumont St, Meantime, has been operating since November last year and has recently just announced its biggest venture to date; a 100% gluten-free menu.

With dedicated hospitality focussed couple Sally and Aaron at the helm, Meantime has moved their offering into a new realm with the arrival of their gluten-free menu just a few weeks back.

“Since we’ve gone 100% gluten-free it has just blown my mind. It was struggling for a while there, so we did a lot of restructuring. I’m coeliac myself and originally, I wanted to expand the menu to include a lot more gluten-free options. Through that, we just decided why don’t we just go completely gluten-free,” Sally said.

If you weren’t intentionally looking out for it, you wouldn’t even pick that the menu is gluten-free. The huge menu offering covers everything from your typical starters like Arancini, Bruschetta, and Salt & Pepper Squid to the Meantime signature starters like the Crispy Popcorn Halloumi.

“Our burger bun is honestly amazing. It was really difficult to find a good gluten-free one, and we ended up stumbling across this one. It was actually our Head Chef, Ty that found it, and he honestly couldn’t believe that it was gluten-free. We checked the ingredients like forty times just to be sure; it was almost too good to be true.”

Moving through the menu you’ll notice a decent selection of burgers to choose from, plenty of main dishes to devour, their signature taco offering, and guess what? It’s all 100% gluten-free!

“We’ve extended into schnitzels as well and from the main menu, they would definitely be our biggest sellers. We’ve changed a couple of recipes to make them gluten-free. An example is our Lamb Salad which was originally done with couscous, now it’s quinoa! We’ve just changed and adapted where necessary.”

The world of gluten-free offerings has come a long way from their cardboard flavours and has grown into a huge foodie movement that everyone can truly get around without compromising on flavour.

In addition to the incredibly coeliac-friendly foodie offering, the Meantime crew have sourced a Gluten-Free beer which is available both on tap and in cans. The Two Bays Brewing Lager (on tap), and their Lager and Session Ale available in cans have all been a crowd-favourite; going hand in hand with the venue’s foodie offering.

One last little tidbit for you all which might be worth mentioning is that Meantime is officially slinging out FREE coffee on the daily. You might ask, what’s the catch? Let me tell you… there isn’t one!

“We’ll be offering free coffee indefinitely. Coffee isn’t our business at all, so we just offer free coffee. You can have it here; you can take it away; whatever you like. It’s just free coffee, you don’t have to buy anything else. You can have ten free coffees if you really want!”
