Newcastle CBD’s go-to public bar has had a refresh
Over recent years we’ve followed the slow rebirth of one of Newcastle CBD’s go-to watering holes. The Grand Hotel’s gradual transformation has seen the rejuvenation of the venue’s downstairs space, The Underground, to the complete refurb of the former pokies area turned dining space, Henry’s Parlour.
2024 marked the year for The Grand’s public bar to finally get its turn and the team behind the venue have delivered, with refreshed interiors that continue with the overall theme we saw come to life in Henry’s Parlour.
In keeping with the historic nature of the venue, the interiors reflect that of an old-world tavern-styled space but with modern touches throughout. Think dark timber accents, exposed brick walls, and those intricately detailed stained-glass features.
The public bar officially reopened on Wednesday, 22nd May and moving into the cooler months, The Grand and its downstairs space, The Underground, has been abuzz with movement.
To coincide with the public bar’s reopening, The Grand Hotel has launched a new winter menu to get you in a cosy mood. Think classic pub feeds you’d find across England including an almighty Scotch egg, bangers and mash complete with mushy peas, chunky pepper steak pie, and of course, the iconic Sunday roasts.
Additionally, the venue’s menu focuses on a coeliac-friendly offering, with 95% of the menu’s dishes completely gluten-free.
To entice you to check out the fresh space, the team have also announced that every Sunday over the next three months The Underground will be opening its doors from 4pm with live music from local artist, Daryl Aberhardt.
“Expect urban groove, R&B, and soul. It’s a little different to what we do on our Tuesdays and Thursdays. We’re just trying to give people an option to go somewhere nice and cosy during winter.”
Whether you’re down for a hearty pub feed, keen to see the venue’s transformation, or just down to check out some new live music, drop in to The Grand Hotel in Newcastle’s CBD.
