In an interview with Abbey Hart, Head of Product & Promotions at James Lane, we hear about the brand’s journey, style philosophy, and all about the changes at the Kotara location.

Founded eight years ago, James Lane emerged from a vision to fill a gap in the market with the journey beginning at their first store in Castle Hill in Sydney – where customers seeking stylish yet affordable home furnishings were welcomed.

“We saw a gap in the market for a modern, on-trend homewares and furniture brand that was also accessible and affordable,” Abbey said.

The brand’s style and approach is simple, yet effective – to make world class design affordable with no compromises on quality, materials, or construction. The brand’s evolution over the years has honed its identity, creating a distinctive offering that blends contemporary trends with long-standing practicality.

“Inspired by the latest trends emerging in the world of architecture, interiors, art, and design, we take these ideas and create furniture and homeware pieces that are stylish and fit for purpose. Our sofas are super comfy, our furniture can be lived with, and our homewares lend a designer touch to any home.”

In July 2017, James Lane arrived in Kotara giving Novocastrians a taste of the unrivalled approach to furniture and homewares – truly making its presence in the Hunter region.

The recent refurbishment of the Kotara store, which was completed in just under three weeks, has completely transformed the in-store experience with its distinctive spaces throughout, curated to showcase individual designs and styles.

“It’s cool, it’s sexy, but it’s approachable.”

“Products that both look good and feel good. After all, what good is a stunning sofa or a pretty coffee table if they’re not practical for everyday life?

“Our much-loved Como, Riley, and Sunday sofa collections are the perfect example of this – designed with removable, washable, and interchangeable covers, they are adored by families and pet owners alike.”

James Lane’s customer base is diverse, ranging from young individuals setting up their first homes to families seeking those timeless long-standing pieces. The brand actively engages with customers through social media, consistently connecting with new audiences.

“We also encourage our customers to seek inspiration from our Instagram and TikTok accounts where we curate and share our favourite real-world content from customers’ actual homes. It’s the best way to see how that furniture piece looks in a variety of settings.”
